EDMONTON HARRIERS CROSS COUNTRY SERIES
EDMONTON HARRIERS CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING LEAGUE 2006
CHANGES FOR REGISTRATION FOR 2006
If you wish to have students participate in any of the cross-country races,
please register your school by sending the following information to amsteward@shaw.ca
- School Name
- School Mailing Address including Postal Code
- Coaches Name
- Phone number to reach the coach if necessary
You only need to register once. There will be no on-site registration for
schools. We would like to collect payment for all races following the 4th
race. We will bill schools based on the athletes from your school that show
up in the results. Hopefully, this will mean that schools will only have
to issue one cheque, rather than 4 and will lead to less hassle for teachers/coaches.
Most schools opted for this method last year and it seemed to work very well.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO SCHOOL COACHES
Once again this year, the Edmonton Harriers Track and Field Club will be hosting its Elementary Schools Cross Country Running League in September and October of the 2006-2007 school year. The format remains much the same as in previous years. We hope to see all of our "regular" schools back again this fall… and we’d love new ones!
Note: you will no longer receive information via fax. Please familiarize yourself with this website. All results will be posted here. Please feel free to share this address with any interested students and their families.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Harriers cross-country league, it is a series of four meets for elementary students, grades 4-6 (although younger students may compete with the grade 4 students). Students compete against others in their own grade and of their own gender, thus each meets consists of six races. The three Wednesday after school meets comprise a series in which students earn points for themselves (in the individual competition) and for their school (in the team competition). Awards are given for the combined results of these three races. Students must participate in all three meets to be eligible for the individual awards. A final meet is held on a Saturday morning and is scored independent of the series.
We would encourage each school to bring a bus, as a special parking will be provided for buses. There will only be limited parking available for cars.

NOTE: For maps or directions please contact City of Edmonton Parks and Recreation.
Awards: The Wednesday meets are organized as a league, with runners earning points for each race. First in each race earns 50 points, second 49 points etc. Medals are awarded to the top three accumulative point earners in each category e.g. grade 4 girls etc.) These medals will be awarded at the final (Saturday) meet. Runners must compete in 3 meets to be eligible for these awards
Awards are also given to the top three teams in each category on an accumulative point basis (for Wednesday meets). Teams are made up of the first three finishers in each category for your school, and need not be the same three individuals for the three meets. Three medals will be awarded per winning team at the final (Saturday) meet. Schools must compete at all three Wednesday meets to be eligible for these awards.
The Saturday (championship) meet is separate from the league series for scoring purposes. For the outcome of this meet, medals will be awarded for the first 3 runners in each category and the top three teams in each category. For this meet only teams will be comprised of the top 4 runners in each category from your school.
Place ribbons will be given to the top ten finishers in each race.
The entry fee again this year will be $3:00 per child per race. This entry fee covers the cost of insurance, park permits, ribbons and medals.
In order to speed things up and simplify things we do not require payment for each individual race this year. At the end of the series we will use the results, tabulate the total number of runners from each school and will then bill the schools. Hopefully this will simplify things for everyone.
Please have all athletes equipped with name labels (the stick on type) and include the following information:
NAME:
GRADE AND GENDER:
SCHOOL NAME:
Information must be printed legibly as these stickers provide our only participant list. Students will stick these adhesive stickers to their T-shirts. Harrier volunteers at the finish line will remove them.
Concession: We hope to once again this fall have a concession with beverages and snacks.
